The art 02 course is an introduction to the visual arts and provides a basis for individual understanding and enjoyment of art. It also fulfills the University General Education Fine Arts requirement. The art Fusion logo symbolizes the harmony that can emerge when a wide variety of artistic styles come together.
Techniques
Whether it be drawing, painting or sculpting the various art mediums are used to create the finished product. Each of these art techniques require refinement, dedication and time spent to perfect them.
Portraying depth is one of the most fundamental skills in art. This can be accomplished by utilizing different art techniques such as aerial perspective (a technique that uses value to communicate light source and focal point) and linear perspective (two parallel lines converge at a vanishing point on the horizon line to create the illusion of depth).
Another effective way of portraying depth is through the use of color. Using a simple tonal shift in the values of a given color can communicate a sense of distance and foreshortening. Layering is also a great technique that can be used to convey depth by placing one art medium on top of the other. This can be done with paint, inks, oils and even paper.
Arts, Beats and Eats Celebrates Arts, Music, Food and Community
Arts, Beats and Eats is a Labor Day weekend festival that celebrates art, music, food and community. The event is a 26-year-old tradition that has hit major milestones in its history.
The festival is a family-friendly affair. Kids can browse the fine art in the highly ranked juried art show and sample food from local restaurants. The music lineup includes Joan Jett & the Blackhearts on Friday, Halestorm on Saturday and Russell Dickerson on Sunday.

Ford Arts Beats & Eats is back for its annual festival filled with artwork, live music and mouth-watering cuisine. The Labor Day weekend event will feature 200 performances across several stages, a nationally-ranked Juried Fine Art Show and more than 50 local restaurants.
The event’s national music stage is sponsored by Jim Beam, while presenting sponsor Flagstar Bank exhibits student works from Oakland County high school students. Oakland Community College will bring a number of its cultural/acoustic and culinary offerings to the festival, with OCC Chef Athena Bolger CCC, FMP, and her talented proteges demonstrating how to infuse tasty spirits and build them into perfect cocktails.
Healthy food choices will be abundant at the festival, with nearly all vendors offering at least one healthful option. Priority Health is promoting “Practice for a Purpose” with a series of group fitness classes including Dance Jam, Warrior Sculpt and Gluteus Maxout.

The annual Labor Day weekend celebration of art, music and food returns to downtown Royal Oak this year. It will feature an array of musical acts, a Juried Fine Arts Show that is among the top 10 in the country and plenty of food from new and returning vendors.
The festival’s new presenting sponsor, Corewell Health (formerly Beaumont), has signed a multi-year deal and will sponsor the event’s three first aid stations as well as its community initiatives. In addition, the festival will offer a new area called Culture on 4th that hosts a group of BIPOC-owned businesses and restaurants, including Lekker Choco Treats, Fork in Nigeria, Natural Viking LLC and others.
In partnership with Chrysler, attendees 21 years and older will have the opportunity to test drive a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica plug-in hybrid at the festival. Proceeds from this activity will benefit the Autism Society of America.

In its 26th year, Arts, Beats and Eats continues to bring the community together for a unique end-of-summer experience. The festival offers something for everyone, from national touring acts to local artists on nine stages. This year, the event will make an effort to prioritize environmental sustainability. For example, a new beverage partnership with Kroger will offer eco-friendly biodegradable corn-based cups. Also, culinary students from Baker College will create unique menu items that will be sold by participating Royal Oak eateries.
Corewell Health returns as sponsor of the festival’s prestigious juried fine art show, which is nationally ranked and raises funds for community groups. This year, the festival is partnering with Chrysler to increase accessibility for families of children with autism. The program includes a test drive of the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid and a $50 donation from Chrysler to the Autism Society of America for every test drive.

In another first, this year’s Soaring Eagle Arts, Beats and Eats may feature cannabis sales and consumption in a tented area, if the state grants approval. Festival producer Jon Witz is working with House of Dank, which operates medical and recreational marijuana stores.
The festival also has partnered with Baker College to give three culinary students the opportunity to work with Royal Oak restaurants Give Thanks Bakery and ImaginAte. They will create menu items that are exclusive to the event, and a portion of proceeds will go to the nonprofit Open Hands Pantry in Royal Oak.
Other new features include a mural created by students from Pensole Lewis College of Business & Design, the nation’s first Historically Black College/University focused on design. And artisans from Glass Academy will transform empty Maker’s Mark bottles into blow-glass artwork.

In addition to a collaboration with Baker College culinary students, Arts, Beats and Eats is proud to feature a limited-edition menu item and specialty cocktail that will benefit Open Hands Pantry, the local community-based nonprofit food pantry. The exclusive menu items will be available at various festival eateries and will help raise funds for the pantry.
This year’s festival music lineup leans towards rock and roll with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, while the country stage welcomes songwriter Russell Dickerson and the band American Authors. On the R&B and soul side, first-timers include Cullen Emadrey, whose musical style echoes Aaliyah; and the international stage adds Half Way There, an eclectic collective from Lapeer.
Corewell Health, formerly Beaumont Health, has renewed its sponsorship of the event’s Juried Fine Art Show and is supporting three first aid stations. Additionally, Chrysler is bringing the 2023 Chrysler Pacifica for attendees to test drive and experience its Calm Cabin Package.
